Animals Migrations

Giraffe

Giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis), with their towering height and gentle demeanor, are more mobile than they appear. In the savannahs of Africa, giraffes travel long distances in search of food and water, especially during dry seasons. Their seasonal movements are influenced by the availability of acacia trees, their primary food source, which blooms and sheds leaves at different times of the year.

Giraffes often follow migratory herbivores like zebras and wildebeests, taking advantage of their ability to spot predators from afar. These seasonal movements play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems, as giraffes help spread seeds through their droppings. However, habitat fragmentation and poaching have disrupted their natural patterns, necessitating efforts to protect their migratory corridors.
